I am proud to be your Member of Parliament for Vancouver Fraserview–South Burnaby, and as your Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Pacific Economic Development Canada.
Over the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of serving Canadians at all three levels of government. After being elected as Member of Parliament in 2025 and appointed to serve in cabinet, Prime Minister Mark Carney and I set out to tackle the nation’s housing crisis head-on and ensure every Canadian has a place to call home. Together we launched Build Canada Homes — the most ambitious affordable housing plan in our nation’s history. This once-in-a-generation investment is more than just construction; it’s about restoring security, dignity, and opportunity for people across the country. We’re focused on using federal land for affordable housing, creating a modern homebuilding industry powered by Canadian innovation, builders, and sustainable resources – something that hasn’t been done since the housing crisis after World War Two.
Before entering federal politics, I was Special Envoy for Cities in CHAMP, as well as Global Ambassador for the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, the largest city climate alliance in the world with over 13,000+ cities in partnership. I represented cities at major events at the United Nations and COP summits.
Before that I served as Vancouver’s longest-consecutive serving mayor from 2008 to 2018. During that time, Vancouver became recognized globally as one of the greenest and most livable cities in the world. My team and I led Canada on climate action, affordable housing, child care, and reconciliation with First Nations. We also built one of the country’s fastest-growing urban economies.
I began my public service as a Member of the BC Legislature from 2005 to 2008. Before and between terms in government I’ve been an entrepreneur: an organic farmer, co-founder and CEO of Happy Planet - a successful sustainable food company - and with a green building manufacturing company scaling up innovative, low-carbon construction solutions.
My wife, Eila Park Robertson, a veteran journalist and communications expert, and I spend our time between Ottawa and Vancouver, where we enjoy time with our family, granddaughters, and friends.
